Offered at $13,900, Consignment
With Frost White paint and Black Leather-trimmed interior, this 1993 GMC Typhoon has less than 42,500 original miles – Vin: 1GDCT18Z8P0811628. The Typhoon is capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph is 5.3 seconds and can do a quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds at 95 mph. This is important when the kids are late to school, or if you need to get to the Grocery toot sweet. The General reached into it’s bag of tricks when it came up with this factory Hot Rod version of the popular GMC Sport Utility.
This example is a two-owner, West Coast / California car – is very clean and completely ready to enjoy. The Typhoon featured a 4.3L Vortec V-6 engine with forged pistons, and incorporated higher performance parts like the main caps, head gaskets, intake manifolds, fuel system, exhaust manifolds and a 48mm twin-bore throttle body from the 5.7L GM Small Block engine. The GMC Typhoon brochure advises output was officially 285-hp @ 4400 rpm, and torque was measured at 350 lb-feet at 3200 rpm. The Typhoon featured a Mitsubishi turbocharger, and Garrett Water/Air intercooler. All Typhoons had standard full-time all-wheel, a Corvette-inspired, 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, upgraded high-performance four-wheel anti-lock brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, 16″ x 8″ cast aluminum wheels and Electronic Level Control; an air-operated self-leveling rear suspension. Borg-Warner transfer case split torque with 35% forward and 65% to the rear wheels.
Everything on the this Typhoon works as it should. Standard equipment includes: Air conditioning, AM/FM Stereo w/ compact disc player, cruise control, tilt wheel, intermittent wipers, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, full charcoal carpeting with carpeted floor mats, center floor console w/shifter, cup holders and two 12-volt outlets for accessories. The vehicle is factory stock, save the white on white front grille.
Including Destination charge, the original Manufactures Suggested List Price in 1993 was $30,101 – a copy of the factory Monroney label is included and the vehicle has books and records. The Frost White paint is in excellent condition, as is the black leather trimmed interior, carpet, dash etc. Being from California, there is zero rust. The current tires are Uniroyal Tiger Paws, with approx. 75% tread. All cast aluminum wheels are in great shape. The panel fit, gaps and seams on all Typhoons were a bit iffy from the factory. Other than that, and one tiny trim split on the plastic/fiberglass cladding, this vehicle is in tip-top shape. A rare find – extra clean and ready for you to twist the key and enjoy.
All Typhoons were built for GMC by Production Automotive Services of Troy, Michigan. Other than a handful of prototypes, only 4,697 total GMC Typhoons were ever built. The production breakdown by the two model years was: 2,497 in 1992, and 2,200 in 1993.
