Basically a brand new 1984 Volkswagen Convertible. Made in Germany the old fashion way, this fun to drive VW has only 28,000 original miles from new – VIN: WVWCA0154EK002009. I purchased this vehicle from its original owner. He used it for weekend pleasure drives and garaged the car its entire life. It has a 100hp 1.8 liter fuel injected VW GTI engine, 5-speed close ratio manual transmission, sports suspension, and ventilated front disc brakes. The vehicle has the optional air conditioning – which blows nice and cold.
This car is all original with books and records; including the original window sticker. The paint is original – Bronze Grey Metallic and is perfect with no scratches or dents. The interior is medium tan with vinyl seats and medium tan carpeting with matching brown and black trim.
The interior is also perfect, very clean with no rips or dash cracks.
The top is original (not a replacement) – it fits perfectly, opens and closes smoothly and is in excellent shape with no rips or issues. I have a VW four button leather steering wheel installed and the car comes with its original steering wheel in medium tan. The Pirelli tires are 90% and the wheels are perfect. Usually Dealer serviced, the car has been very well maintained. An oil and filter service was just completed, the A/C was serviced and a new rear trunk strut was installed. The original dealer installed am/fm cassette radio still works, but is not very impressive – the car would benefit from a new radio. The car shifts
nice, steers straight and stops true.
One interesting issue – the speedo reads fast, approx. 10 – 15 mph at speed. Early in the cars life, the original owner addressed this with the dealership while the car was still under factory warranty. The dealerships recommendation was to change the gauge cluster at 2,200 miles. They stamped the service book and put a sticker in the door to indicate this action. It is also noted in the VIN vehicle history file from a VW dealership. The new odometer counter was not changed – but all miles are accounted for. The current odometer shows approx. 25,500 plus 2200 miles from the gauge cluster prior to the warranty repair.
Unfortunately, the warranty repair ‘did not fix’ the issue, so the speedo is still fast….70 – 75 miles per hour on the freeway reads 80 – 90 MPH! Oh well, maybe it will make you drive a little slower…
This VW Convertible is honest, clean and about as perfect as you will ever find. It is easy on gas, approx. 28 MPG on the highway with the top down! And the rear seat also folds allowing the car to be a roomy cargo hauler. This VW is completely turn key and ready to enjoy. It is a fun to drive, reliable, econo
